Finlandia Exhibition: A New Experiential Journey into Aalto’s Creativity and Finnishness

In June 2025, a permanent exhibition opening at the Finlandia Hall will take visitors on an inspiring journey to the sources of creativity of Alvar, Aino, and Elissa Aalto, as well as to the essence of Finnishness. The narrative-driven exhibition tells an unprecedented story about creativity, Finnish identity, and humanity through the lives and works of the Aaltos, significant events in Finnish history, and the relationship with Finnish nature and forests. The overall experience will provide new perspectives on the Aaltos’ achievements and their impact on Finnish architecture, design, and international networks.

The Finlandia exhibition brings the Aalto legacy to life as a multi-sensory experience, where light, nature, purpose, and human relationships come together. Spaces that previously served as rehearsal rooms for symphony orchestras now invite you to experience their harmony. Sit down to admire and immerse yourself in the stories that intertwine with the creation of the Finlandia Hall and the building of Finnish identity along the way. The exhibition invites you to sense, linger, and participate.

From the Finlandia Hymn to the Sources of Creativity

The Finlandia Exhibition consists of five immersive spaces where visitors can experience the captivating story of the Aaltos and Finnishness. It takes them from the opening notes of the Finlandia hymn to the healing light and a forested space that emphasizes the importance of nature. The story reveals the significance of networks and collaboration for success and ultimately leads directly to the sources of creativity. Floor plan of the Finlandia Exhibition.

Prelude: Step into the world of the exhibition with the melody of the Finlandia Hymn. The space sets the mood for visitors, tells the story of the iconic hymn’s origin, and begins the tale of the Aaltos and Finnishness.

Healing light: Stop by the light and experience its deep impact. Discover inspiring lighting solutions and understand the power of light in Aalto’s designs.

Land of forests: Descend from the light into the world of the forest, where Finnish nature and wood as an element come to life. Aalto’s creativity drew from the forests, and in this space, you will see how wood takes shape in architecture and design.

Together: Dive into the networks of Aalto and learn about their friends, partners, and exceptional international relations. Stories from around the world deepen the understanding of Aalto’s way of being and doing, and bring a smile to your face.

MyAalto: Participate, try out, and get inspired. This interactive space invites you to explore materials and leave your mark on the exhibition.
