The album Plays Metallica by Four Cellos, which kicked off Apocalyptica’s successful career in 1996, received its second part, Apocalyptica Plays Metallica vol. 2, on Friday 7.6.2024, bringing the Helsinki Sibelius Academy graduates back to their roots and bringing the nearly 30-year cycle to an end.

Metallica is also featured nicely on the new album, as the critically acclaimed singles have featured band members as guests. The first single released, The Four Horseman, features Robert Trujillo on bass. The song “One”, released in May, features not only Trujillo but also James Hetfield himself!

However, the most stirring announcement in the metal world came on 5.6.2024, when Apocalyptica announced “The Call of Ktulu” from the album Ride The Lighting as the last single from the album. The song features Metallica’s legendary founding member, bassist Cliff Burton, who tragically died in a bus accident in 1986. The song uses Burton’s original bass track.

Apocalyptica Plays Metallica vol. 2 is the band’s ninth studio album. Produced by the band’s longtime collaborator and studio wizard Joe Barresi (Queens of the Stone Age, Soundgarden, Nine Inch Nails, Tool). The publisher is Throwdown Entertainment.
