The horsehair sways – welcome to Alvar’s Open Doors! Admission is free.
Architect Alvar Aalto designed Finlandia Hall down to the smallest detail. For example, the doors of Finlandia-auditorium are upholstered with black fabric woven from horsehair.
These doors will now open to the public on Saturday, February 21, 2026, as Finlandia Hall invites visitors to celebrate Alvar’s Open Doors Day.
During the day, visitors can independently explore the Finlandia-auditorium on the second floor of Finlandia Hall.
In collaboration with the Alvar Aalto Foundation, two public lectures will also be held in Helsinki Hall. The speaker is Anniina Ruonala, guide at the Alvar Aalto Museum, Master of Arts, and visual artist. The title of the lectures is “The Significance of Fine Art in the Aaltos’ Oeuvre.”
At the end of both lectures, Ruonala and Finlandia Hall’s Managing Director, Johanna Tolonen, will engage in a discussion on the topic as well as the HAM artworks currently on display at Finlandia Hall. The lectures begin at 12:00 and 14:00 and last approximately 45 minutes. The lectures will be held in Finnish.
Seats will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, within the maximum capacity of the hall. No advance registration is required.
On Alvar’s Open Doors Day, two visitors can enter the Finlandia Exhibition for the price of one.*
Finlandia Cafe&Wine is open on Saturday from 11:00 to 18:00, serving a Vegan Brunch from 11:00 to 15:00. Throughout the day, delicious display counter treats are also available. Next to the café, Finlandia Shop offers the opportunity to discover unique design finds. Restaurant Finlandia Bistro serves guests from 15:00 to 18:00, offering salmon soup and almond cake.
*Discount entitlements are personal. If tickets are of different price categories, the offer applies to the lower-priced ticket.
