ARJA SAIJONMAA – SONG OF FREEDOM
55 years of music by Mikis Theodorakis
Arja Saijonmaa sang into the heart of legendary Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis (1925-2021) at the Helsinki Student House in 1970 when Arja performed at a concert in honour of Theodorakis. Mikis recruited Arja as a soloist on his world tour all the way to Australia and Chile. Arja and Mikis’ journey together lasted until Theodorakis passed away three years ago.
Theodorakis’ music has been a central part of Arja’s artistic and personal career. Arja wants to preserve Mikis’ legacy by bringing his music to Finlandia Hall for two special concerts accompanied by a unique Greek orchestra.
In concerts, Arja Saijonmaa and her band offer a memorable Finnish-Greek evening, full of passion and deep interpretations of Theodorakis’ immortal music and fascinating backstories. Mikis’ songs are the great songs of Arja Saijonmaa’s life.
The concerts are part of the opening season of Finlandia Hall and are produced in collaboration with Yellow Film & TV, the production company of the Elämäni Biisi programme.
