GREGORIAN – 25 YEARS MASTERS OF CHANT

The hugely popular Gregorian Choir will come to Finland on its 25th anniversary tour and perform at Finlandia Hall on 4.2.2025.

The Gregorian Choir, which has already gained worldwide popularity with their 1999 Masters Of Chant album, celebrates its 25th anniversary by embarking on the 25 Years Masters Of Chant anniversary tour. The German choir, which has also performed to sold-out halls in Finland, will arrive in Finland with a large ensemble in February 2025. The impressive anniversary show, featuring Regorian classics from over the years, will visit Helsinki, Turku, Oulu, Kuopio, Tampere and Jyväskylä.

For twenty-five years, Gregorian has charmed audiences with his choreographed performances and ability to seamlessly switch genres from church singing to pop and rock songs. Founded by Frank Peterson, the choir rose to worldwide fame already with their 1999 debut album Masters Of Chant. Since then, the choir has performed in more than 35 countries and sold more than 10 million albums. The world’s most successful choir has achieved gold and platinum status in 24 different countries. Experiencing Gregorian live is an audiovisual spectacle that for 25 years has garnered standing ovation from its audiences.

In 2025, Gregorian will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a new tour featuring Gregorian classics performed by a large ensemble over the years.

“The upcoming Greatest Hits tour celebrates Gregorian’s history and achievements. At the same time, we get to thank our loyal fans who around the world show their love and support by coming to our gigs time and time again. Our anniversary show will be a great journey through the choir’s history. Included are highlights from about twenty of our productions. We can’t wait to perform our favourite songs again and show our audience the anniversary show we’ve prepared,” says Frank Peterson.

In late 2024, Frank Peterson will release a new Gregorian album. The album contains both new songs and new versions of well-known Gregorian classics.

The idea of the Gregorian Choir was born when Frank Peterson visited the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial in Spain in 1989. While walking through a medieval monastery and castle complex and listening to contemporary music on his Walkman, he was inspired by a new sound experiment. Peterson came up with the idea of mixing ancient Gregorian hymns with modern music. Peterson first came to fruition with Michael Cretu and Enigma, who had grown into a worldwide sound phenomenon. Their first album, MCMXC a.D., was released in 1990 and quickly became a huge success. MCMXC a.D. topped the charts in 41 countries, selling 57 times platinum and 45 times gold.

It is considered the most successful German album of all time worldwide. The huge success of Enigma paved the way for Gregorian, who took the musical idea a step further. Frank Peterson has been involved in various music projects and international productions for over 30 years. He has worked as a producer with Sarah Brightman, Enigma, Justin Timberlake, Andrea Bocelli, Paul Stanley (Kiss), Backstreet Boys, Alannah Myles, José Carreras, Tom Jones and Plácido Domingo. In addition to Gregorian, Peterson has worked as a program producer for Sarah Brightman since 2005.
